Welcome to VicFolk, the Victoria University of Wellington Folk Music Club
We play, dance to, and sing mostly traditional Irish and Scottish music. If you’re interested in playing or singing trad music, dancing or listening, get in touch, or keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on events. We welcome folk musicians who’d like to put on participatory folk music events. You can also book our band to play at your event.
We are back and firing on as many cylinders as is safe to do so for Term 2! Our weekly Thursday meetups are continuing with the appropriate physical distancing, in a new and improved location.
Our next events are:
Guitar Masterclass with Andrew James, Thursday 17th September, 8-9pm, Room EA120, Easterfield Building, VUW Kelburn Campus. We are lucky to have Andrew James come in and teach us about guitar and accompaniment in folk music. Please contact Vicfolk if you are not a current member but would like to attend.
Morris Dance Workshop, Thursday 1st October, 7 – 9pm, Room EA120, Easterfield Building, VUW Kelburn Campus.
Meet-ups and workshops throughout the Trimester, every Thursday 7-8:30pm during term time, at VUW Kelburn Campus, Room EA120 in the Easterfield Building (directions and info).
Here’s Vic Folk playing at International Dance Day at Te Papa in 2018. Thanks to Don Laing for the video! (More under ‘About VicFolk‘).
